Ja, er kan weer gedanst worden! Want Entoto Band brengt een hedendaagse interpretatie van Ethiopische funk uit de jaren ’60. Deze jaren, samen met de jaren 70, worden ook wel gezien als de gouden jaren van de Ethiopische muziek, met namen als Mahmoud Ahmed, Mulatu Astatke en Alamayehu Eshete.

Bulderende saxofoons, soulvolle zang en groovende ritmes smelten samen in een energieke show waarbij het publiek zich waant op de dansvloer van swingend Addis Abeba! De band is opgericht door de muzikale duizendpoot Joep Pelt, en is vernoemd naar de 3000 meter hoge berg die uitkijkt over Addis Abeba. In de gelederen bevinden zich ondermeer artiesten uit de Eritrese en Ethiopische gemeenschappen in Nederland. In januari 2023 verschijn het titelloze debuut album op Guitar Globetrotter Recordings, en dit optreden maakt deel uit van de releasetour.

Yes, let’s dance again tonight! Because Entoto Band serves a contemporary interpretation of Ethiopian funk from the sixties. These years, together with the seventies, are considered being the golden years of Ethiopian music, with names like Mahmoud Ahmed, Mulatu Astatke en Alamayehu Eshete.

Roaring saxophones, soulful vocals and groovy rhythms all come together into one energetic, fiery show. As if you are on the dance floor in swinging Addis Abeba!

The band was formed by Joep Pelt, and is named after the 3000 meter high mountain that overlooks Addis Abeba. A part of the band members are from the Eritrean and Ethiopian communities in The Netherlands.

In January 2023 the debut album of Entoto Band will be released on Guitar Globetrotter Recordings, and this show is part of the release tour.
