Tegendraadse, geniale muziek uit Brazilië

Satanique Samba Trio is een dwars bandje. Niet alleen is het geen trio, ze spelen ook geen samba, althans in de reguliere zin. Wel is het verduveld goede muziek en is het in ieder geval één van de leukste en spannendste groepen van de Braziliaanse alternatieve scene.

De opgewekte en briljante muziek van dit vijftal (!) is volledig gericht op het deconstrueren van de populaire clichés van Braziliaanse volksmuziek. Samba's, bossa nova's, forró's en andere ritmes worden op hun kop gezet, uit elkaar getrokken en ontregeld, om er vervolgens een geheel eigen versie van te brouwen.

Satanique Samba Trio wordt qua muzikale gekte niet alleen vergeleken met avant-pop legendes als Captain Beefheart en Frank Zappa, maar ook met hun populaire landgenoten Os Mutantes. De groep veroverde een cultstatus in Brazilië als openingsact voor o.a. Tom Zé en Naná Vasconcelos.

Genius Brazilian music à la Captain Beefheart

Satanique Samba Trio is a weird band. It's not only nót a trio, but they also don't play samba, in the regular sense anyway. But it's devilish good music!

This quintet (!) is one of the most exciting bands from the Brazilian alternative scene. Their light-hearted and brilliant music is focussing on the deconstruction of the popular clichés of Brazilian folk music. Sambas, bossa novas, forrós and other rhythms are turned upside down, torn apart and finally reassembled in an unique 'satanesque' way.

Musically Satanique Samba Trio has not only been compared to avant-pop legends like Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa, but also to their fellow popular compatriots Os Mutantes. Satanique Samba Trio earned their cult status in Brazil as an opening act for big names like Tom Zé and Naná Vasconcelos.
